This local watering hole combines an inviting, old-school atmosphere with an impressive menu of classic American bar fare and standout cocktails, making it a beloved spot for both longtime residents and new visitors seeking an authentic Cranford experience.
Step inside Riverside Inn and you’ll find a lively yet cozy environment filled with quirky wall art—highlighted by nostalgic touches like a Northern Exposure sticker—that perfectly complements the friendly vibe. Regulars describe it as a "funky local spot" where the bartenders know your name and the camaraderie flows as freely as the drinks. Weekend nights can get packed, so arriving early can secure you a prime spot, whether at the bar or in the popular outdoor tented area.
The menu is a testament to indulgent, well-crafted comfort food. Those craving something crispy and satisfying will appreciate the fried pickles and garlic cheese curds, while the clam strip Po’ Boy earns high praise as a crowd favorite. Meat lovers will find themselves torn among options like the grilled ribeye, bone-in NY strip steak served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, and a glorious array of handmade 8 oz. burgers—from the classic cheeseburger and smoky bacon burger to inventive varieties like the Buffalo burger and Alpine burger.
Signature sandwiches like the ribeye steak sandwich and the hearty kielbasa sandwich showcase the kitchen’s ability to elevate traditional pub grub into flavorful, crave-worthy dishes. Seafood lovers shouldn’t miss the delicate soft shell crab or bacon wrapped scallops, which pair beautifully with signature cocktails.
Speaking of drinks, Riverside Inn shines with its creative cocktail menu. The Pineapple Upside Down Cake Martini is a fun, sweet surprise, while the Jack N Ginger with Lemon and well-made classic vodka sodas keep things refreshingly crisp. The martinis, in particular, receive consistent accolades for their balance and flavor.
Customer reviews reveal the genuine appeal Riverside Inn holds. Sam Chewleff calls it “a very cool, funky local watering hole” where “everything I’ve eaten there has been delicious,” capturing the spirit of a place that’s more than just a bar—it’s a community hub. Tom Manf’s lifelong connection sums it up best: “It’s still ‘da dive’ but I think it’s the best it’s ever been. The atmosphere is old school Cranford…and they have bands!” Kat Granado highlights the “kindest staff, tasty food, and amazing drinks,” while Kate Quigley praises the friendly patrons and thoughtful bartenders who go the extra mile, such as gifting a birthday shot. Even with a bustling crowd, the energy feels personal.
While some items like the garlic bread might not hit the mark every time, and the service can feel brisk due to the venue's busyness, the overall experience remains deeply satisfying. The necessity to order at the bar adds to the dive bar authenticity, encouraging mingling and keeping the vibe lively.
In sum, Riverside Inn Bar offers a refreshing blend of rustic charm, deliciously satisfying food, and a community-driven atmosphere that invites you to slow down, savor great flavors, and enjoy memorable nights out. Whether you’re craving a perfectly grilled steak, inventive cocktails, or simply a genuine ‘‘dive’’ experience with character, Riverside Inn is a Cranford staple worth exploring.
this place is exactly as it's described...a total dive typical bar food...fried stuff like fingers n onion rings were decent (obviously frozen) the clams are the best! garlic bread is terrible and burgers weren't great the slow, lack of service isn't due to anything other than the place is busy! we were at a table but forced to get up and order from the bartender the martinis are quite good and the LIIT was deeelish it's noisy but not smelly like others wrote. expect a dive bar all around there's outdoor seating too
Very cool, funky local watering hole. Come early cuz it can get packed on weekend nights (or even during the week.). An unexpected plus: the food is outstanding. Everything I’ve eaten there has been delicious.
I have been coming here since I was able to legally drink. The place has evolved over the years but it's still "da dive", to be honest I think it's the best it's ever been. The food is great. The atmosphere is old school Cranford ......and they have bands! #Checkitout
The kindest staff, tasty food, and amazing drinks. The wall art is the greatest. Found a Northern Exposure sticker! 15/10
Definitely a town hangout but the outdoor tent area is really good for a nice night out. The people there were nice . The bartender paid for my shot because it was my bday. Overall cute. Go thru back door not the front
Exactly what you would picture a great bar to be! The old classic rustic place with all the classic bottles and drinks as well as cute seasonal twist. Was there for the postseason baseball game and football games! Great choice of music today!
